How Acupuncture Can Heal Soft Tissue Injuries

Western medicine has never been able to appropriately treat soft tissue injuries. When it comes to soft tissue injuries, injuries that are painful and harmful to the body but not severe enough to require surgery, the only thing Western medicine can do is to prescribe medicines that mask the injury itself. This can potentially lead to more serious problems.

Traditional Chinese Medicine however has been able to treat soft tissue injuries for years through the method of acupuncture. By inserting thin needles into the body at specific points, acupuncture is able to:

  • Improve circulation
  • Restore flow of blocked qi to the injured tissues (to promote healing)
  • Reduce or block pain signals in the nervous system
  • Reduce muscle spasms
  • Promote healthy organ function
  • Stimulate the release of endorphins (natural painkillers)

Soft tissue injuries can occur in many ways all over the body. It usually involves muscles, ligaments, or tendons having sprains, strains, contusions, and/or tendinitis. Signs of soft tissue injury include pain, swelling, bruising, and/or irregularity/ inability to move or use the injured part.

Acupuncture for Sprains

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) suggests that sprains disrupt energy flow through the affected area, which thusly causes pain and other symptoms. Acupuncture targets the area to restore energy flow and improve circulation, letting the affected area get the qi and circulation that it needs.

Acupuncture for Bruises/ Contusions

Acupuncture helps with blood circulation, which helps ease pain, swelling, and inflammation of deep and tender bruises. Stimulating blood and allowing it to flow better throughout the injury deliver healing nutrients delivered directly to the injury so that it may heal faster.

Acupuncture for Tendinitis

Acupuncture is preformed to decrease inflammation in the body part that has tendinitis. This helps ease pain and promote healing. By preforming acupuncture on an affected area, you can reduce the chances of the injury becoming chronic.
